Sue Roland
Oil Painting Artist
As a child, I always had a fascination for nature and art. I enjoyed drawing and painting for hours with whatever was available, pencil, crayons or tempera paint. In my early twenties, I explored many mediums: charcoal, pastels, pen and ink, acrylics but found my best creations were achieved with oil paints. I painted pictures for family members and friends as a hobby but never seriously considered a career as an artist.
Like most young adults my primary concern was to have a steady job with decent pay. I spent over 30 years in sales and marketing for the computer industry and owned my own graphics design and computer services company for several years until I decided to take early retirement to move to beautiful Myrtle Beach SC.
Like most retirees I found not having a daily job left me searching for ways to fill the days. My friends and family encouraged me to sign up for an oil painting class conducted by Jim Horton, a very talented artist who has a passion for art and for teaching.
It only took two classes for me to discover that I have the heart and soul of an artist and have this need to paint. I look forward to spending time at my easel and beginning each painting not knowing what may appear as I let the colors flow and explode onto the canvas. I let the magic happen and marvel at the results as the image comes alive. I use vivid colors and try to create vibrant and expressive paintings that touch the soul. I hope you enjoy my paintings as much as I enjoy creating them for you.
I am sure the best is yet to come and look forward to sharing my creations with you.
