"And The Winner Is" Old Yacht America was used several times in later years as a "Sparring Partner" to test new boats just coming out for speed. Each time the old boat left berth was cause for reporters to gather! Beloved old America finally collapsed in its storage shed when roof collapsed from heavy snow in 1943. Scrapped for salvage iron in 1945.
